Overall, I have really enjoyed this class at Ladue Horton Watkins High School. I have learned a lot about how to properly conduct an interview, how to stage a shot, and how to overall be a professional film editor and producer. Even though I already knew a lot about Final Cut Pro, I learned a lot of new tips and tricks that I can use in the future. Thank you so much for this opportunity to help expand my interests and learn more about something very interesting!

For our final interview project, I chose to make my subject my very close friend, Poorva Sheth. The reason I chose her was because of her wonderful accomplishments regarding community service and giving back for the greater good. A few years back, Poorva created an organization called Kare for Kids. a tennis clinic for children with disabilities. You can learn more about her efforts and her story along with more information about the clinic by watching my interview on here below!
Overall. I really enjoyed the independence we were given on this project, I chose to work alone rather than working with a partner because I felt like I could be more creative on my own doing the exact topic I was interested in and inspired by. Although going solo is a harder route, I believe my final product is better than anything I could have made with a partner. I really like the happy and personal touches I added to my interview because it really shows the environment Kare for Kids creates for its visitors. I also think my interview looks very professional because it is fun yet very simple. Thank you for this opportunity to seek out such an awesome experience and allowing me to record it all! In the story Adoption, Steve Hartman learns about the life of a married couple and their child, and how they became foster parents over the years. She starts off by saying that she is boring and has no story to tell, but by the end. Hartman reiterates and says how this "boring woman" has a lot to tell. regarding Hey, You, See, So, he starts off by addressing the people, asks them questions about their life, states facts about their life, and leaves the audience with the message: What can you do to make the world a better place? In the video Soul Food, he also goes along the same premise. He first introduces the character, has them explain what they do, states facts that aren't visible during the video, and leaves us with the same message: What can we do to be a better person/make the world a better place? Steve Hartman has a wonderful ability to make the audience feel inspired to do something good. Even when the story may not even seem that interesting, a lesson can always be learned.

For the sound bites interview project, I chose to interview my mom due to her interesting story she had to tell. She lost her father at the young age of 22, and I was curious to find out more about her experience and how it has impacted her life. She gave me a lot of information to work with, which was very helpful, and she put a lot of emotion into her response, which I was thankful for, as well. In the future, I would try and set the camera up a little better, ask her to not look directly into the camera and rather look at me, enhance the sound, and edit a bit more to make the interview shorter but also well put together. I really loved this interview project and I am very excited to start our next more intense and in-depth interview project!
For my six word story, I decided to use "There Will Never Be Enough Color". The reason I decided to work with this specific and original concept was because of the many ways the audience could perceive it. One way they could go about understanding my story is related to art. Another way is through race, identities, and cultural differences. However, my six word story does not have one set meaning. The reason I did this was to let the viewer interpret my story any way that seems fit for their experiences, beliefs, and/or emotions. In my video, a boy is airbrushing a diamond, and all the shots are in chronological order. In the end, he rumbles up his work to symbolize the idea of it "not being good enough" or, "not enough color". He throws it in the trash where it sits with hundreds of similar crumbled pieces of paper. I loved this project and I really like the idea and thought behind my six word story.
The idea of a six word story is to showcase the ability to tell a story in just six words, A famous one written by Ernest Hemingway is: "For sale: baby shoes, never worn."
A few of my favorites are... "You're not a good artist, Adolf." "A son abused. Another son abused." "The paper killed my pet rock." "I've made all the best mistakes." "Just you and me. And her." "Focus was good. Bokeh was better." Some websites I have found that help explain and contribute to Six Word Stories are... http://www.sixwordstories.net/ https://twitter.com/sixwordstories Although I edit on my own at home and outside of school, I really enjoyed editing in class. I learned a lot more shortcuts, filters, tips, and hacks for Final Cut Pro that I never even thought of using at home. I also liked how we had the freedom to use multiple kinds of transitions, filters, titles, and editing tools. Another thing I really enjoyed was if you forgot to hit white balance on the camera while filming and the color in the footage is off, you can fix that with just the click of a button! I really look forward to continue using Final Cut Pro and expanding my knowledge on this fantastic software!
For the video scavenger hunt, we were told to go around our school and find and record a series of shots. The shots that allowed us to get really up close and personal (tight shots) were my favorite because they gave me a sense of creativity. For the shot "Something Red", my group and I found a bright red car in the parking lot and used it to our advantage. I angled the camera so the viewer could only see a portion of the car, while allowing it's shine, design, color, and aesthetic to create a beautiful composition all on it's own. I am very excited to be using Final Cut Pro on this project because, as i sated in my last blog post, I believe it gives the creator a lot more freedom than iMovie does. For the next project, I would really like to play around with music, and more editing to see what else we can do with our footage. I work with Final Cut Pro outside of class but I really wanna see what I can make at school, as well! I loved this project and I am looking forward to what I will make in the future!
Our first project in Broadcasting Technology was to create an iMovie trailer about ourselves. I included all of the things that I believe truly define me as a person; my family. my brain surgery back in 2011, my love for dogs, hobbies, and interests. I really liked how the music was edited to play with the pictures chosen by the arist themselves; it makes the video more powerful. I also really like how iMovie auto-animated everything because it's helpful for beginners who are new to technology such as iMovie. I really liked this project, but I am looking forward to doing more in-depth and challenging projects and using Final Cut Pro rather than the default iMovie application. Although iMovie is a very fun and useful app, I believe you can make even more powerful videos on a software such as Final Cut Pro due to it's larger variety of editing tools. I'm excited for what's next this semester!
